Heavenly Gates Closed in 1935 Re-opened in 2007
by Alfred insince 1935, the watchtower had been categorically teaching (for over 6 decades) that the heavenly calling of the 144,000 anointed christians had ceased in 1935. this teaching was especially significant to older jws (especially those who spent much of their lives serving the watchtower as pioneers, elders, missionaries, bethelites, etc.
) because many of these would eventually turn their attention to the aging governing body members and feel a sense of relief knowing that the end was drawing ever so near.
in other words, as more governing body members (who were born before 1935) passed away, the closer they would get to their long-awaited reward of surviving armageddon and living on paradise earth where they would finally hug grass-eating lions near a waterfall while marveling at snow-peaked mountains in the distance.

Getting Stuck on the Idea of Closure
by OnTheWayOut ini may be suffering twice for having left the jehovah's witnesses and watching my jw wife and other family members stay in.
once for the changed situation (or loss) and another time for expecting to make progress in getting over it.. the 1969 book on death and dying by elisabeth kubler-ross introduced us to the kubler-ross model , commonly referred to as the " five stages of grief.
" they are very helpful, but the original idea of the book and the hypothesis was that when a person is faced with the reality of impending death , he or she will experience a series of emotional stages: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.. it isn't always the case, but those stages are often felt by terminally ill patients.

HELP! Can God SEE the future?? How?? Is this predestination??
by Bloody Hotdogs! inhad a very long and frustrating debate last night.. .
jws like to say that god has the ability to foresee the future, but can chose not to look.
this, they claim, removes the problem of predestination/preordination.. .

For the most part, when JWs are unable to respond to critical questions regarding God's will, they're programmed to say:
"Just wait on Jehovah." which is to say: a clarification will com in due time...
(and maybe they'll mention Micah 7:7 which has nothing to do with waiting for a "clarification")

Stand For Pure Worship, what convinces you that the governing body is being used by Jehovah? Thanks.
by The Quiet One ini struggled with this question before i got baptised.
what helped you to overcome any doubts?.

Stand For Pure Worship, if you really cherish the so-called faithful and Discreet Slave, you wouldn't be going against their advice about reading apostate material or posting comments...
"We also refuse to read their literature, watch TV programs that feature them, examine their Web sites, or add our comments to their blogs." Watchtower July 15, 2011 page 16 paragraph 7.
It's clear that you really DO NOT stand for pure worsip.

Eurozone crisis- the jw's are crowing about it like mad!
by highdose inover the past few weeks i've been told that the eurozone will go into melt down and that this will be the start of armargeddon because the goverments will then turn on religon to get their money instead.. i have been told that the greek pm almost rejecting the greek bailout plan would lead to armargeddon.
of course much to the jw's disapointment the greek pm resigned and the greeks did accept the bail out.
thus saving the greek banks from collapse and thus the rest of the european banks.. i have been told that italys debt will mean they will plunder the vatican for its wealth!

The sin of Sodom and Gomorrah- What does the bible REALLY teach?
by irondork inas with most doctrines, the belief that the bible condemns homosexuality is multi-layered and allegedly supported by several scriptures.
when he raised his eyes he got to see the man, the traveler, in the public square of the city.
let me bring them out, please, and you rape them and do to them what is good in your eyes.

JWs win constitutional challenge in Puerto Rico
by behemot ina federal appeals court in boston ruled monday that a puerto rican law intended to keep neighborhoods safe from crime has been used to interfere in the rights of free speech of jehovah's witnesses.jehovah's witnesses in puerto rico had claimed that laws enacted in 1987 effectively shut down the door to door ministry which the christian group is well known for.
the laws effectively authorized neighborhoods to deny citizens access to public residential streets by erecting walls and gates around them reported digital journal last year.
according to primera hora, the federal court ruled that the law should allow the 318 congregations of jehovah's witnesses in puerto rico to freely express their faith.

Dacula neighborhood on edge after rash of break-ins
DACULA —
A community is on guard after a rash of home break-ins by committed by criminals posing as Jehovah’s Witnesses.
The victims are taking to the Internet to alert others about the break-ins. Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri talked to some of the neighbors to find out how the crimes are being committed.
Police said they're aware of at least four burglaries in one day in the Hamilton Mill subdivision, as well as the Apalachee Farms community. But neighbors said there have been more, and in several cases, they said thieves are posing as members of Jehovah's Witness when they knock on doors.
“You feel a little scared, a little frightened about your surroundings where we never felt that way before,” said victim Steve Boerrigter.
Gail and Steve Boerrigter said their yellow lab Norman isn't the only one still rattled following a break-in at their Dacula home. The couple didn't want to be on camera, but said they were gone for just one hour last Tuesday morning when someone got in through a rear window and stole jewelry and electronics.
“Apparently it seems they're going house to house rather boldly,” Boerrigter said.
Neighbors reported seeing someone ring doorbells posing as a Jehovah's Witness.
“They came to the door just pretending to be Jehovah's Witness and if someone's home they're going to leave,” Boerrigter said. ”It's frustrating that we have to take these kind of measures.”
David Lee wasn't at his home in the Glenaire neighborhood Thursday night. But we were able to interview him through a video relay system he installed last week after someone tried to break in -- with his wife inside. He says a man and woman rang the doorbell then went out back and tried to break a window.
“And then she said, ‘I think they're breaking in’ and that's when I told her to go ahead and yell out to let them know that she was home,” Lee said.
The pair ran off when Lee's wife shouted at them. Lee put cameras in front and behind his home. It takes pictures and emails them if motion sensors detect anyone walk up. Both families said they'll be on edge until an arrest.
“What you thought was a pretty nice neighborhood. You just wonder now, you know, well you feel so violated,” Lee said.
Nearly every witness has reported seeing a black late-model Buick sedan near where the break-ins are happening. Police said they believe the same people are responsible and they're following up on several leads.

Are JWs the worst restaurant customers?
by Alfred in(a little background info before i ask my question...).
my sister-in-law (non-jw), who manages a popular chain restaurant near a kingdom hall, just found out that my wife and i have recently faded, so she decided to get something off her chest the other day... you guessed it: she wanted us to know that jws are the worst customers ever!
she then told us some really embarrassing stories about how jws would request a table for 15 to 20 people (after a sunday meeting) and then (when the bill came) some of the jws would start deliberating amongst themselves on whether or not the waiter was diligent or not (to justify the low tip he was getting anyway).

Anthony Morris III... Did he really serve in Vietnam? Something doesn't quite add up...
by Calebs Airplane inborn in 1950, he apparently became a regular pioneer in 1971.. but wait.... let's just say that he enlisted (or was drafted) in 1968 at age 18.... depending on the branch of service, he would have to complete anywhere from 2 to 4 years of service.
yes, duty in hot combat zones was usually limited to 6-months at a time but you still had to serve a total of 2 to 4 years depending on the branch of service.
assuming he only served 2 years, he would have been 20 years old and discharged by 1970.... how did he get witnessed to, complete a book study, become an unbaptized publisher, get baptized and then become a regular pioneer in less than year???.
